Eggs are delipidated and purified via affinity based chromatographic methodologies. The final purified antibody is assayed for protein concentration and optionally examined for purity by coomassie stained SDS-PAGE or antigen activity by ELISA and/or western blot. Greater than 90% purity is typical.

Process yield is affected by a number of factors, including antibody species, isotype and antibody producing characteristics of the antigen being used for the immunization.  Chicken egg yolks can contain up to 150 milligrams antibody per egg. Antigen specific antibody may be 1% - 10% of this amount.`
