Question:
We have been asked to analyse serum samples from birds already vaccinated for Influenza, therefore we wish to carry out approx 300 serum samples for antibodies. Which kit would you recommend for this project?
Resolution:
The kit we sell will not help you since it is an antigen capture assay that detects the presence of the Influenza A nucleoprotein.
What you need is an antibody assay to detect the seroconversion of the animals in response to the vaccine.
This assay would take the form of antigen coated on an ELISA plate - ideally the vaccine itself could be used to coat the plate. Then after sample incubation and using an anti-IgY secondary antibody, you detect the serum antibodies that have bound the antigen.
We can develop this assay for you if you can supply the vaccine.
UPDATE: We now offer an assay to detect Influenza A antibodies from any species. See index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=192:influenza-a-virus-np-antibody-inhibition-test&catid=400&Itemid=2317 for information.
